Earlier today, Microsoft released the Windows 10 May 2020 Update, also known as version 2004. Not as big of an announcement, however, is the release of Windows Server version 2004, which is now available for those in the Semi-Annual Channel (SAC).
What's new in Server, version 2004
You can use the following to get Windows Server version 2004 images from MCR.

The company boasted an overall smaller size to both the download size and the OS itself, coming in at a 1.865GB download and 4.05GB on-disk. That can be compared to 2.257GB and 4.97GB for version 1909, and 2.311GB and 5.1GB for version 1903. One of the changes made is that the Server Core no longer optimizes the .NET Framework for performance, as that's now done in the .NET Framework runtime image.
Indeed, this update seems to be all about optimizations. A smaller footprint for the OS means a faster startup, optimized performance, and more. Another thing that Microsoft is looking to optimize is Server Core containers. It wants to be able to modernize traditional apps without taking up too much storage space or bandwidth.

- We have fixed a performance issue in Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) that prevents it from working correctly for many users.
- We fixed an issue that prevents cleaning tools, such as Disk Cleanup, from removing previously installed updates.
- We have updated the 2020 start date for daylight saving time (DST) in the Kingdom of Morocco. For more information, see KB4557900.
- Security updates to Internet Explorer, the Microsoft Scripting Engine, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Microsoft Graphics Component, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Shell, Microsoft Xbox, Microsoft Edge, Windows Fundamentals, Windows Cryptography, Windows Authentication, Windows Kernel, Windows Virtualization, Windows Update Stack, Windows Core Networking, Internet Information Services, Windows Network Security and Containers, Windows Active Directory, Windows Server, and the Microsoft JET Database Engine.
Important note about accessibility: We are aware Narrator and NVDA users that seek the latest release of Microsoft Edge based on Chromium may experience some difficulty when navigating and reading certain web content. Narrator, NVDA and the Edge teams are aware of these issues. Users of legacy Microsoft Edge will not be affected. NVAccess has released a NVDA 2019.3 that resolves the known issue with Edge.
Windows Server, version 2004 is a Semi-Annual Channel (SAC) Release. In our most recent Windows Server SAC releases, we've optimized for containers. In this release, we continued improving fundamentals for the core container platform such as performance and reliability. We've also worked with .NET team and PowerShell team and further optimized image size and performance for Server Core containers. We will share more details below. On container networking side, we implemented several improvements to allow for better scalability, robustness, and reliability. One example is additional changes and improvements to Direct Server Return (DSR).

* You can add languages and regional support to Windows Server, version 2004. You can install LIPs over any edition of Windows Server, version 2004, but they provide a translated version of only the most widely used dialog boxes, menu items, and help content. To install a LIP, you will need to have the required parent language installed on your PC. Windows Server, version 2004 installations start with at least one language pack and its language components. You can add:
Language Interface Packs (LIPs): Partially-localized language pack. Requires a base language pack. In Windows Server, version 2004, LIPs are delivered as .cab files, for example, C:\Languages\es-ES\lp.cab.
** When you add a language pack to a Windows 10 or Windows Server image, you can also add Language Features on Demand (FODs) to enable additional functionality.
Minimum:
- Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
- RAM: 2 gigabyte (GB) for 64-bit
- Hard disk space: 32 GB for 64-bit OS
- Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
- Display: 800 x 600, a minimum diagonal display size for the primary display of 7-inches or larger.
